Should You Use PTE Templates? What Changed in 2025
Structures help. Memorised scripts that ignore the prompt can hurt — especially now that human experts part-score content on seven task types.
Templates have been part of PTE preparation for years. The question isn’t “templates: yes or no?” It’s “what kind of template, and for which job?”
What Pearson changed
For tests from 7 August 2025, Pearson says responses to some questions are part-scored by humans as well as AI. The seven task types are Describe Image, Retell Lecture, Summarize Written Text, Write Essay, Summarize Spoken Text, Summarize Group Discussion and Respond to a Situation. Pearson also states that humans never score pronunciation or fluency — they review content.
Structure vs script
- A structure is a thinking order: “what it shows → main feature → two details → conclusion”. It helps you organise real content quickly.
- A script is a block of memorised sentences that could be said about any image or lecture. It fills time without saying anything specific.
Structures help almost every student. Scripts may appear to help at lower levels, but they don’t demonstrate that you understood this image, this lecture or this discussion — which is what content scoring is designed to reward.
A practical template detox
- Keep your structure; delete generic filler sentences.
- Force yourself to include at least two specific details from the prompt in every response.
- Record five Describe Image attempts. Highlight every sentence that could apply to any image. Replace each with a specific observation.
