Superior English PTE Scores Explained

“79 each” is the old rule. For tests from 7 August 2025, Superior English needs different scores per skill — with the highest bars in Speaking and Writing.

Last verified: 26 September 2026

Home Affairs lists Superior English for PTE Academic tests taken on or after 7 August 2025 as at least 69 Listening, 70 Reading, 85 Writing and 88 Speaking.

This changes preparation priorities. A student with 90 in Listening and Reading but 84 in Writing would not meet the new Superior threshold. Speaking and Writing now deserve the most attention for Superior-level candidates.

Scores as at 7 October 2026, from the Department of Home Affairs English language pages (immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/help-support/meeting-our-requirements/english-language). Requirements vary by visa subclass, so always check the current Home Affairs page. For migration advice, speak to a registered migration agent.

Exam formats, scoring and visa rules can change. Always verify important information with Pearson PTE and the Department of Home Affairs.
