PTE 65+ Study Plan: A Focused Route for Busy Students

A realistic 3–4 week plan for students aiming at 65+, built around the tasks that feed multiple skills.

A 65+ target is common for university admission and many professional registrations. For Australian visa purposes, remember that Proficient English for PTE tests from 7 August 2025 is skill-specific: at least 58 Listening, 59 Reading, 69 Writing and 76 Speaking. Know your exact requirement before you plan.

Scores as at 7 October 2026, from the Department of Home Affairs English language pages (immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/help-support/meeting-our-requirements/english-language). Requirements vary by visa subclass, so always check the current Home Affairs page. For migration advice, speak to a registered migration agent.

Principle: fix the foundations first

At this level, most lost marks come from fundamentals: hesitation in speaking, grammar and spelling in writing, and collocations in reading. Advanced tricks come later.

Weekly structure (60–90 minutes a day)

  • Speaking (25 min): Read Aloud chunking, Repeat Sentence, one Describe Image with a clear structure.
  • Writing (15 min): one Summarize Written Text; an essay every three days.
  • Reading (20 min): Fill in the Blanks sets with a collocation notebook.
  • Listening (15 min): Write From Dictation plus one Highlight Incorrect Words set.

Checkpoints

  1. End of week 1: can you finish every speaking response without restarting?
  2. End of week 2: are your SWT responses always one grammatical sentence within 5–75 words?
  3. End of week 3: mock test and re-X-Ray. Adjust the plan to the weakest skill.
