Pearson announced updates to PTE Academic that apply to tests taken from 7 August 2025.

  • Two new speaking tasks: Summarize Group Discussion and Respond to a Situation.
  • The original 20 question types continue with the same format and timing.
  • Content on seven task types is part-scored by human experts as well as AI. Pearson states humans never score pronunciation or fluency.
  • The score scale stays at 10–90 for Overall, Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing.
  • Pearson says the average test duration remains around two hours, and results are still returned within two days in almost all cases.

Pearson also says pricing, ID requirements, retake rules and the booking process did not change as part of this update.

Exam formats, scoring and visa rules can change. Always verify important information with Pearson PTE and the Department of Home Affairs.
